McAfee VirusScan 8.0 review

Wednesday 7 July 2004, 10:41 PM

requires Active-X security risk enabled!!!

requires Active-X to be enabled which all security experts (and my company) require to be disabled!!! Also doesn't work if MSIE is not your default browser, I use Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, and FireFox...ONLY, never MSIE. Does not un-install completely, leaves active background security console with no way to remove it. After 3 hours and 3 transfers with customer service I ended up with 3rd teir CS idiot who was just clueless. CS is just the worst I've ever seen. Too bad, McAfee used to be the best, alas, NOT any more.

Featured Talkback

Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
