Best in virus protection; poor in design
McAfee VS has always been the best with virus protection. But they removed a few essential perks from 6.2 in 8.0:
1. no option to scan on the fly incoming or outgoing files ONLY in HD. 6.2 can.
2. VS 8.0 cannot scan files on the fly that are zipped. 6.2 can.
3. VS 8.0 does not allow a user to clean, delete, or even accept an infected file; it does things for you on its own. 6.2 gives you that option.
4. VS 8.0's splash screen cannot be turned off. Possible with 6.2.
Further VS 8.0 would annoy you with pop-ups informing you of a virus. I'd rather have VS do it's job according to what I want it to do without it having to bother me.
Maybe Network Associates should have improved 6.2's engine instead of redisigning the whole thing. It worked better then with 6.2 by giving you the right options to do what you want, but took a couple of steps back when they reached 8.0.
Maybe the Pro 8.0 design should have been called VS for Dummies instead of calling it their Pro version.
