Norton AntiVirus 2004 review

Thursday 29 April 2004, 7:26 AM

Horrible! Unacceptable! Garbage! Activation Crap!

I will not buy any software with activation after dealing with Windows XP and Office XP. Change some hardware enough and voila -- software stops working. Office won't save etc. until you call each company and type in some stupid long number. This activation stuff is going to be a nightmare... imagine 10 years from now EVERY product has this -- now, if you change a CD-RW, hard drive, etc. you have to spend 3-4 weeks calling 800 numbers to reactivate all your software! No Thanks!

NORTON 2003 was excellent -- best one so far from Norton in my opinion. Norton 2004 -- bloated, crappy, and pathetically programmed. Too much bloatware. Take a look at Winfax Pro -- thats a pig on resources as well. Very poor software! Save your money. Get Norton 2003, then AVG, then I would recommend McAfee. No software should be this problematic. Pure GARBAGE!!!

Verdict

NAV 2004 is still a good choice for first timers, but its minor improvements mean that NAV 2003 users need not upgrade.

Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
