Word 2007 - kindergarden edition
The UI on Word 2007 looks like something designed for kindergarden children. Big icons, lots of color & clutter.
If you are familiar with earlier versions of Word, WordPro, WordPerfect etc... forget everything you have learnt over the last 20 years. The UI is totally unintuitive; related items are no longer displayed next to each other in the menu (oops, i mean 'ribbon'). The big icons mean the whole menu looks cluttered & due to the lack of logical design it is almost impossible to find the functions to do anything other than the most basic of functions.
Also; in this latest version; almost all the useful templates have been removed. It's ok if you have a permanent connection to the internet to go & grab some more; but the software doesn't come with (say) a standard, profession letter, fax or report template anymore ... although you do get a template for writing a blog. Very handy to 99% of most users (not).
If you have a current version of Office 2003 or XP then stick with those products. If you don't, then I recommend you get Start Office; it's free, quicker & has almost as many features without any of the very frustrating clutter that comes with Word 2007.
