OpenOffice.org 1.1 review

Tuesday 2 August 2005, 4:09 AM

OpenOffice is good in some cases, terrible in others...

For me, compatability and speed are the biggest issues when it comes to office software. I work with a group that uses Microsoft Office 100%, generally for very large files, often over 400 pages. OpenOffice has a terrible time loading these files while Microsoft Office is leaps and bounds faster. And even when OpenOffice does load the files, they are often rendered differently, so even slight changes ruin the order of 400 page documents. I'd rather run with Microsoft Office.

Verdict

This feature-rich, flexible and, above all, free office suite is much more than a refuge for the anti-Microsoft tendency. It works, it’s reliable and it’s useful.
