Understated, unpretentious, unbeatable!

I use OOo for text documents, spreadsheets and presentations. I have found it generally intuitive to use, and where I did get lost the Help feature sorted me out. I haven't yet had to go to the Forums for help, but it's nice to know that there is another [huge!] level of support out there to tap into.

And it's so nice to sometimes send a document to another party in the OOo native foemats [sxw / twxt, sxc /spreadsheet] and then - when they phone up to say they've got a load of gobbledygook - resend it in MS formats with a note to the effect that I'd have thought that MS would have got its compatability issues sorted out by now!

And I haven't even mentioned the price advantage!

Verdict

This feature-rich, flexible and, above all, free office suite is much more than a refuge for the anti-Microsoft tendency. It works, it’s reliable and it’s useful.

Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
