Opera 7 for Windows review

Sunday 9 January 2005, 10:42 PM

Used Opera for years -- still the best browser for me

Nice browser, very configurable. I think it was the first to use tabbing and mouse gestures. I also use Opera 7 as my main email program: combining browser & email is very handy, but the email function is relatively simple. OK for my personal mail but I wouldn't use it at work. I really like the fast search function, which helps you find things instantly even if your mailbox is huge.

I see a lot of PCs get infected or getting advertisements all the time when using IE. After using Opera for years I still never get any of that. Don't know how big Opera's role is in that but at least it helps a bit.

I bought Opera 7 to support Opera, but I didn't have to do it for extra functionality: if the screen resolution is relatively high (1600x1200) the advertisements don't bother at all.

What I would like to see improved:
-Thumbnails in case of email jpg attachments
-Sometimes Opera crashes (rarely). When I restart I did not lose anything (saved windows) but it needs to be more stable.
-When a PC comes out of standby, Opera says that the network connection is lost. I don't want those messages.

You can see: only minor issues, I can really recommend Opera.
