Brilliantly simple installation

Having migrated through PP9.2 and now using v10.1 64-bit (AMD 64 3500 box), the product has just got better and better. Ease of installation is, as the reviewer says, now comparable (and faster if using the DVD) to any WIndows OS (it is faster than WinXP Pro 64-bit beta!). There is pretty well universal support for any and all appliances you may have filled your slots with, and also for a vast number of external plug & play units (printers, scanners, cameras, digital cameras etc). The range of software included (as you get one month of Mandrake club silver membership within the price) is equally staggering. Provided you don't mind not having some of the "bells and whistles" of MS dedicated applications, you can be up and running a full workstation within a very short period of time. I now run dual-boot Mandrake/WinXP Pro systems on all my boxes, using the XP OS for those specific apps that cannot be Linux emulated.

N.b. If buying the boxed version of 10.1, you get two very comprehensive manuals included.

Verdict

It may lack the high profile of other Linux distributions, but Mandrakelinux 10.1 is one of the easiest to get to grips with -- if not the easiest of the lot. This new release also has lots to offer both novices and experts alike.
