ESXi is the easiest hypervisor to install and use. It's based on VMware's ESX Server code, making it among the most stable and mature virtualisation options available. It also uses very little RAM and disk space, leaving more server resources free for your virtual machines... Read Full Review.

  • Requires very little patching
  • Quick and easy to install
  • Little discernable difference between ESXi and the older ESX Server

Cons

  • Hardware compatibility is more restricted than some alternatives

So - if people can see the benefits from using virtualisation tools and approaches for consolidation (yes - I think that really is all we are talking about here!), does anyone think we are ready to finally wake up to the fact that we do not actually need to have a physical desktop at every desk? ... or, heaven forbid, that we can access our logical desktops remotely from practically anywhere?
