Mandriva Linux 2006 review

Tuesday 25 July 2006, 11:38 PM

One of best OS's arround, definately one of distro's out there.

Not as clean and fancy as Suse or OS X, but definately solid and reliable and works with every hardware combo I have tried. Not something I can say about other distro's. I don't have a dvd burner, so I relied on burning downloads to cd's. 7 cd's later, this is my only complaint. More tedious software installs than most, but kiosk is changing that.

Verdict

Mandriva occupies the middle ground between consumer-focused and business-orientated Linux distributions. It's generally well put together, but lacks some details.

Typical price

£ 136

Featured Talkback

Its the applications and device drivers that run on windows that cement its dominance. How many people would fork out hundreds of pounds for Vista if Linux ran all the software and kit they wanted to use.
