Best overall compared to SuSE-10, FedoraCore-5

Mandriva allowed ME to chose which kind of filesystems I wanted (JFS) and the layout I desired (custom) and did NOT get foolishly in my way as did both SuSE-10 and Fedora Core v5; especially Fedora, which was going to do it "Its way" - no thanks very much - it was even going to wipe EVERYTHING out that I already had - no way.

Mandriva is best for initial installs and for installs which involve some new volumes and some new disk layouts.

Verdict

Mandriva occupies the middle ground between consumer-focused and business-orientated Linux distributions. It's generally well put together, but lacks some details.
