Sun Solaris 10 review

We are not in early 80s but in 2006 so try a bit harder with next release!

Compare to other OS like
Freebsd 6.1 or Debian GNU Linux 3.1, Solaris 10 is like early RedHat: very agresive marketing and poor quality.
Performace? pfff it is such a shame that Sun not allow to public benchmark results!
Documentation and manuals? I thing that I would write it much better! You are willing to say SUPPORT. What support you are going to give to sysadmins if you dont know how to write proper man pages! Hope that some day people understund that agresive marketing is not enough.

Significant performance, availability and feature enhancements make Solaris 10 an automatic choice for existing Sun customers. But as an alternative to Linux, it doesn’t yet deliver.

Its the applications and device drivers that run on windows that cement its dominance. How many people would fork out hundreds of pounds for Vista if Linux ran all the software and kit they wanted to use.
