The new release is a big improvement over the first. You can use it without Word, and it has a nice built-in PDF viewer so you don't even need Reader. There is a reason this was the first product to convert PDF - it's not an easy thing to get right. I think this does.

7.8Anyone needing to edit text distributed via PDFs should find PDF Converter invaluable. It needs to lose its umbilical link with Microsoft Word, though.

Why do so many (virtually all) software packages think that they are so important that they have to be started automatically every time the computer boots? What is the largest number of "speed access", "update check", "camera download" and whatever other background programs you have ever seen running? Of those, how many did you really need?
