Netgear SC101 Storage Central review

Tuesday 20 June 2006, 1:11 AM

Does not work as advertised.

This was my first foray into NAS devices and may well be my last (definitely with Netgear anyway). The device is marketed as 'Easy to install' but is anything but easy. Even the drive I had that was on the list of compatible drives failed (apparently there are two versions of this drive (ata6 and ata5) and of course, I have the ata5). I then purchased a new drive solely for the toaster and it worked for maybe a day or so. I then changed the location of on of my client PC's and thus moved the port on the router. When I re-started everything, the SC101 would no longer recognise the drive in it. It looks like there are some work arounds but this is way too much trouble for such a device. I'm in IT, so God help the average home user. Good Luck.
