Hope the build quality is better than mine

Ok so I have this drive and guess what? In no time the noise tells me there is something wrong and the throughput is now very slow. When I called technical support they said “Ah this sometimes happens if you switch the unit of in a certain way. This can easily be damage. I did not switch the unit off at anytime and that was the sum total of their support. Given that I love technology and spend a lot on it at work and home I can safely say I will never be buying a LACIE product again. Oh and this was over a year ago and illustrates that I have not changed my mind since. I am about to buy two further external drives, who’s going to get my money? These reviews are always welcome so that real long term users can put a reality check on the quick journalistic review.

Verdict

This is the fastest, best-looking external hard drive we've tested to date, with FireWire 800 performance that's as cheap as its slower mainstream competition.
