Great machine for serious users

I bought my nx9420 about a month ago with the express purpose of laying out and artworking an image-intensive book (100pp) in Adobe InDesign as part of Adobe CS2 (i.e. input from Photoshop and Illustrator, often working in these programs concurrently). The HP's been a revelation as a desktop-replacement: it's so easy to use because of the (pretty well) full size keyboard and the classy vibrant display (I've positioned myself so there's no extraneous light reflected back from the screen). The processor has romped through all of the tasks with barely a hesitation and, whilst I could have bought a desktop to work at, I can pack this machine up into a bag, sling it over my shoulder and cart it off to work/home without any problem.

I took out an HP 3-yr next-day on-site cover plan when I bought the machine, just for my own peace of mind, but the machine's not shown anything other than a wholly benign temperament so far.

Niggles? The backspace delete/Insert/Home keys are laid out differently from a standard keyboard, so fingers need to be re-trained; and I use a mouse in preference to the touch pad wherever I can.

That apart, it's been a real success story - I just hope my book is too!!

Featured Talkback

Put simply, what is the compelling reason to pay ~$200 extra for an Eee with Windows XP? A Windows Eee won't come with any useful applications and you'll have to buy anti-virus software to boot. The truth about low cost computing is that nobody really cares whether the machine is running Windows or Linux as long as its cheap, its easy to use and it works.
