Samsung Q35 review

Sunday 17 September 2006, 12:58 AM

Current best-value ultra mobile

A very efficient and mobile laptop at a very competitive price. One more USB port would have helped. Keyboard is good, but some keys not in optimum positions.
Stays cool and quiet and has imense battery life.
Mine has 100Mb HDD, 1.83MHz CPU and 1.24Gb RAM - some still offered with smaller HDD and slower CPU.
I'm still waiting for a suitable travel adapter/charger to become available.
Slightly less than sturdy top cover and touchpad keys.
Otherwise, extremely good value for money

Verdict

The Q35 is a nicely designed ultraportable notebook whose wide-screen display and good-quality keyboard give it plenty of appeal. Most of all, though, mobile professionals will appreciate the Q35's excellent battery life.

Put simply, what is the compelling reason to pay ~$200 extra for an Eee with Windows XP? A Windows Eee won't come with any useful applications and you'll have to buy anti-virus software to boot. The truth about low cost computing is that nobody really cares whether the machine is running Windows or Linux as long as its cheap, its easy to use and it works.
