Buyer beware - service & repair very poor

I love my Asus, it is a beautiful thing, but I accidently dropped it and broke the hinge about 3 months ago. Completely my fault, so I sent it off for an out of warranty repair. I had to wait 10 days for them to tell me it had a broken hinge and it would cost £89 to fix. No problem, credit card out, £89 paid. That was on May 11 and it is now July 5, the part has yet to be shipped from Taiwan (apparently they don't keep stock here in the UK) but no explanation as to the delay in the shipping of the part. Asus outsource their repair to a UK provider who are not allowed to keep stock on site, so every repair requires a wait to receive parts from Asus. Asus UK does not keep a full complement of parts so you have to wait for parts to be shipped from Taiwan. There does not seem to be any urgency on shipping parts from Taiwan. I currently have no estimate on when I will see my laptop again and they will not let me speak to a manager. So I just want to warn all potential Asus buyers, that if it is at all important to you that your laptop is repaired quickly, these are not the people to buy from. (But it is a beautiful thing).

Verdict

The Asus V6J is a 'thin and light' notebook with a 15in. screen, running Intel's Core Duo T2400 processor. It looks good, is generally well designed and performs very well indeed. However, we'd like to see a bit more battery life.

Review Although it's missing some features (chiefly HSDPA and GPS), Nokia's E63 is a well-thought-out, ergonomic and affordable smartphone.
