The perfect ultraportable

There's got to be sacrifices made if you want the lightest portable on the market. Me, I don't want to lug around an optical drive I use only rarely. I don't need blinding speed on the road. But I do want something so light and usable I have it with me all the time, to read and write e-mail, to write my book, to surf, to download my Nikon - and it does all those things flawlessless and reliably, and is still doing so two years on. I LOVE it.

Verdict

Sony's elegant VAIO X505 is an eminently portable notebook with just enough features and performance. But it's too expensive for most people.

Review Although it's missing some features (chiefly HSDPA and GPS), Nokia's E63 is a well-thought-out, ergonomic and affordable smartphone.
