Toshiba Portégé M200 Tablet PC review Editors Choice Award

Saturday 9 October 2004, 8:29 PM

Fantastic - everyone should have a Tablet PC!

I guess most purchasers of this machine will be business users who have need for a Tablet PC for specific work tasks. For myself, I wanted a wireless touch-screen device for surfing the Internet. I looked at a few handhelds but in the end decided to go with a tablet because I didn't want to have to scroll around a tiny screen. The main selling point for me was the resolution, battery life, wireless connections and the fact that it can morph between a tablet and a normal laptop.

In all regards I have not been disappointed. I am delighted with this machine. As noted elsewhere, for the price, an optical drive would have been nice. Even though the text recognition is very accurate (XP Tablet Edition), I'd still rather use the keyboard for serious typing and this tablet notebook is just like a normal laptop when you want it to be (unlike some other tablets with clip on keyboards). Text recognition is fine for filling in Web-forms however.

The Toshiba Portégé M200's successful combination of notebook performance and tablet functionality make it one of the best on the market, despite its mediocre speed.
