Dell Inspiron 8600 review Editors Choice Award

Saturday 22 May 2004, 7:26 AM

The worst notebook I've ever owned

While this unit had the best features and a good price, it has been a nightmare. The only thing worse has been Dell's technical support and customer care (they should change both of these names). Basically after a few weeks the hard drive failed and repeated calls into tech support got nothing until it finally failed.

This unit also has a tendency to crash on resume, so make sure that you close all important files before suspending. And not the LCD panel is no longer working so far it's been out 13 days and still no word when I will get a replacement. So the great feature set doesn't help. If you have a mission critical need or just want a reliable notebook don't go with the 8600.
