Sony VAIO PCG-NV109M review

Saturday 13 March 2004, 6:54 PM

Excellent features but support rubbish

Brilliant features, use the sub all the time. But here is a list of the stuff that has gone wrong so far (after 18 months):

* 1 hard disk needed to be replaced (out of warranty so cost me £130 - but upgraded to 60gig)
* Headphone socket has ripped out, probably my own fault, but can't seem to get into the case to fix it
* One of the legs has snapped
* Motherboard fried after 6 months
* Monitor worked itself loose, but found the screws to tighten this up

Battery life is good, but seems to be running flat faster now. Bit heavy to lug around, but I do it anyway just cos I like to have some bass in my music rather than the tinny noise you get from most laptops.

Overall: Good, but the support you get from Sony is appalling once it is out of it's warranty -- they don't even sell spares. They want to charge me £12.50 just to talk to them and all I need is a replacement leg!!!
