This laptop is not for the faint at heart

When it works it is fabulous; it's fast, has lots of memory, and cool options (like my DVD/RW). When it doesn't work it's a nightmare...I have had my machine for nearly two years, and I am constantly amazed by the problems it develops. It started with the system locking up a lot, but that was more of a nuisance. While I was writing my Masters thesis, the laptop decided randomly one day that it was not going to work anymore. With much effort, and very little help from Dell's Tech Support line, I fixed it. Every once in a while I still get corrupted file messages and Windows refuses to boot. Now, the LCD (the screen) is only partially functioning. Dell says, send it back to us and the repair will cost a whopping $968...and I've been nothing but careful with my machine...which is now an expensive doorstop. Thank you, Dell, very much for outsourcing; you have successfully avoided any accountability for the quality of your product.
