Probably blinding with MIMO both ends but marginal if LAN Card still 802.11g

"In a vain effort to improve connectivity between opposite corners of our house, I went through a whole raft of Belkin products to end up at this one. The access point was simplest to get up and go (F5D7130uk) but didn't have the grunt to get up the stairs.

The High-Speed mode (125Mbps) router (F5D7231uk4) was better but still not quite strong enough to get into the upstairs room.

Using the Access Point as a Range Extender helped but performance was inconsistent, security features must be disabled and the routers top speed must be dropped to 54Mbps. At this combined cost I thought the Pre-N router was worth investigating.

It probably did give me as good or better than the router+extender config (with security), but the strength was still a tad susceptible at this budget and what about using in the garden on that single day of summer? This cost was starting to outweigh my original expectations of a go-anywhere network and my wife's concept of VFM. If (internal) distance is your issue I'd suggest trying MIMO at both ends, but at the current price premium, I may wait until the cost of a 'package' drops or my reasons for purchase are stronger with 'er indoors.

Thankfully, Belkin's lifetime guarantees gave me reassurance and retailers no quibble in offering full refunds throughout my whole investigation.
So I'm much the wiser and none the poorer."

Verdict

If you want to provide wireless coverage to a large area and you're concerned about range, Belkin's new MIMO-enabled router is a good alternative to a router/repeater solution. However, you'll need Belkin's matching MIMO adapter to reap this unit's full benefits.
