Netgear WGT624 review

Saturday 17 January 2004, 3:40 AM

OK product, but worst tech support EVER!!!!

If you buy a unit and it has a problem, you're dead - NETGEAR never responds to any emails and if at all they do, they do so after 1-2 months, and again with wishy-washy answers which lead to nowhere. I wish Netgear could spend some time listening to the people and implement stuff in their routers. I had made several requests for WPA support in their previous model WGR614 and all I got was "we may or may not decide to implement this feature, depending on whether it is shown in our roadmap"... what sort of a stupid reply is that! Definitely the worst Wireless prod company in terms of Tech Support. They have a bigtendency to get caught up in trying to market new products and forget about older customers! I have owned 3 of their previous products and I upgraded each time due to technology obsolesence -- which is normally supposed to be solved with their firmware updates. If you don't beleive me, go and try to get support for the WGR614 at Netgear - They now have WGR614 V1, V2, V3... a whole list, each having its own firmware with different functionalities.

Verdict

Netgear's WGT624 108Mbps wireless firewall router is a good choice for advanced users, but may be too complicated for networking newcomers.

Could it be that ISP’s are making this out to be a bigger problem than it actually is? We’re a small country with an internet penetration of less than 60%, for every Youtuber there’s someone who only uses the internet to check their emails, more people surf on their mobile handsets than a few years ago. Surely things should even themselves up.
