Works a treat in the USA

Seamless install on my Compaq/HP nx9008 and Compaq/HP EVO N410C, the software finds GPRS and WiFi/Hotspot/802.11xx networks out of the box, no conflicts with other net adapters or Bluetooth. Native GPTRS is slowish, performance improves after installing Sony/Ericcson's update software over the software the carrier packages. I live and work in the US, and am using T-Mobile's network worldwide. The ability to switch between GPRS/WiFi and 802.11xx is an absolute treat. Works well even on the highway in a pool car at 70 mph, where I can now spend an hour in the morning doing email.

Verdict

The GC79 delivers good ease of use and solid performance over both Wi-Fi and mobile phone networks. Sadly, some of its more exotic features, such as EAP-SIM and fast GPRS can’t be utilised until the cellular infrastructure is upgraded.
