BlackBerry Pearl 8100 review

Tuesday 26 September 2006, 10:05 AM

Let down by annoying keypad

We had five users trial the Blackberry 8100 but only one user wanting to keep it! The main problem was the condensed qwerty keyboard which they found hard to navigate. If you are used to txting think again – the layout is completely different. In addition the predictive text was terrible and we had to switch it off for all users. It even comes on when typing email addresses which never work. (how many email address/domains do you know that only use words from the dictionary?)

I do like the phone form factor but for our money we will be going for the Blackberry 8700 with a full qwerty keyboard.

Verdict

It's nothing revolutionary, but the addition of multimedia features to the already solid email capabilities make RIM's BlackBerry Pearl an attractive device for business users and consumers alike.

Review Although it's missing some features (chiefly HSDPA and GPS), Nokia's E63 is a well-thought-out, ergonomic and affordable smartphone.
