Motorola A920 review

Friday 12 March 2004, 1:38 PM

Lasts for 10 weeks then breaks; the worst handset I've ever owned

Have had 2 of these handsets so far. The third is being shipped in, as it is under warranty. The life expectancy of each phone was officially 'long', but in reality both phones only lasted ten weeks.

The phone has great features for taking pictures and videos and emailing immediately round the world. It also synchronises with MS outlook for all the business related stuff. It is let down by lack of infrared, the lack of bluetooth in the first batch was also a real pain, battery life and storage to/from SIM card (very hard to work out). The poor battery life and average life of the phone (10 weeks) are real problems.

As the phone is only available on one network, the customer service and maintenance can only be described as shoddy and disappointing. My first phone was sent to be repaired, came back broken and the shop keeper opted to replace the handset for me. the second handset has been sent off to be repaired but I have been told it is being replaced. No one can say when.

Verdict

The A920 is a clever 3G phone full of promise. But it's also bulky and heavy, has poor battery life and doesn’t yet deliver enough compelling services.
