Sagem myX-6 review

Monday 15 December 2003, 2:55 PM

Great-value feature-packed phone

The photos are terrific when taken close up in good, natural light, and can be saved at two settings, the largest being a decent sized 640x480. An enormous number of photos can be saved between both the phone and the SIM.

As a Mac user, the only let-down is that there is no support for transfering photos to your hard disk beyond the 40p per photo via email option; this should not be a problem for PC users with an infrared port, however.
Physically, the handset is not particularly attractive and does not feel particulary robust -- it also has very fiddly small buttons. But these shortcomings are more than compensated for by a very tidy OS and a great full-colour screen.

The sound is great when using samples for ringtones, and again, the phone's memory seems very generous for on-board storage of sounds.

The GPRS Wap facility does exactly as it should -- although sadly it seems that there is no support for mobile email.

It is also probably worth mentioning that the supplied games are dire, and there does not seem to be much choice in replacing them. But ultimately these negative issues are of very little consequence in comparison with all the other great features, especially considering that this phone can be bought for roughly half the price of the Sony Ericsson T610.

Put simply, what is the compelling reason to pay ~$200 extra for an Eee with Windows XP? A Windows Eee won't come with any useful applications and you'll have to buy anti-virus software to boot. The truth about low cost computing is that nobody really cares whether the machine is running Windows or Linux as long as its cheap, its easy to use and it works.
