Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth review

Sunday 19 June 2005, 2:31 PM

Not Ready for Prime Time

Originally purchased for Windows Server 2003. No Bluetooth, will not install.
So, installed on Win XP system.
Installation is the most difficult of any peripheral I have ever installed. Up & running, with "password" for keyboard (give me a break). Had to go into service pack 2 files to load some requested files.

After all this, keyboard volume controll will not work. Have uninstalled and reinstalled twice.

Must have owned a hundred keyboard & mice, and at least 50 wireless. This is the only one I have ever owned that would not work.

Verdict

Despite some installation glitches and evidence of keyboard driver instability, the Wireless Optical Desktop for Bluetooth is a pleasure to use. Cable clutter is reduced and mobility significantly improved. It’s well worth considering as a replacement for a conventional keyboard and mouse combination, but does not yet provide reliable interoperability with other Bluetooth devices.
