the IEE1394 card fails constantly

We have over 300 of these scanners and 90% percent need new FireWire cards replaced all the time. Even after they come back, the card still fails after several weeks of operation. It has gotten so bad that Microtek will not service the scanners any more. So much for its outstanding support.

Verdict

The ScanMaker 8700 work faster than parallel or USB scanners, but operator speed remains a key factor.
