Despite its shortfalls - an excellent phone/pda

After changing my initial installation of this to "corporate" mode i found most of the stability issues resolved. The minor others i can deal with.

Yes, its clunky and yes, you can't see who's calling you unless you open it first BUT you can surf the net adequately (at around 128kbps) and carry your whole office with you. You can also access your home pc over terminal services which i find very cool.

Build quality is solid and ascethetically pleasing. The screen is bright and sharp reminicent of a sony vaio. Battery life is quite impressive considering. talking on it is fine and speaker volume and sound quality are also fine.

For me it works well as a pda with an optional phone feature when i need that function. For more serious phonage or portability on a night out however i put the 3G sim in my old (non 3g) nokia and it works fine. The small nokia is more portable of course.

I'd say its excellent value as O2 gave it to me as a free upgrade for renewing my contract (i spend around £50 per month). If i had to pay for it i think i'd only be happy paying up to £100.

Oh.. My screen is a bit dodgy so i will get this unit replaced within my 2 week startup period. seriously though, i can see me and this device getting along well.

Verdict

Another HTC Universal-based Pocket PC/phone with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G support, i-mate's JASJAR is available without an operator contract and could appeal to users with existing GPRS or 3G SIMs who are attracted by its flexible clamshell design.

Review Although it's missing some features (chiefly HSDPA and GPS), Nokia's E63 is a well-thought-out, ergonomic and affordable smartphone.
