Acer n35 GPS review

Wednesday 20 September 2006, 10:02 PM

faulty mechanical design

Used it for nearly a year. here's my comment.
1) build-in gps very poor, so only can use when weather is good or connection might disappear halfway.
2) stylus head broke up after a while, now tie a string (insert inside screw up black top) to be able to retrive it
3)car edge connection is royal piece of crap, on the very first few days the connector tiny tiny metal bits got bendy, now it held on precariously while driving, had to be secured with alternative means.
4) destinator not very good but useable. lack of communication devices means it is not very useful as pda, with poor battery life as well, but then i only buy this for its gps function
5) to rectify poor build gps, i bought external antenna. work like a charm for the first few trips, then it fail to detect the antenna's presence, requiring different position of the cable. then disaster struck, the mmcx socket fell out.
6) due to (5), decided to send back for warranty. tookto comet where i got it from, but they tell me to go to acer, so i did. acer tell me they have to charge nearly 90 pounds to fix it. well, i am going to wring a warranty fix out of them. still negotiating, if they dont' relent i am going to set trading standard on them.

Conclusion? draw one yourself.

Verdict

This well-priced Windows Mobile-based handheld/GPS combo could prove attractive, if you're prepared to overlook a moderate specification and some issues with the bundled navigation software.

Review Although it's missing some features (chiefly HSDPA and GPS), Nokia's E63 is a well-thought-out, ergonomic and affordable smartphone.
