Toshiba Pocket PC e800 Wi-Fi review

After 18 months !

I have had an e800 for 18 months. Generally it has never been remotely reliable. I have lost count of the times I have needed to re-set it. It froze, shut down or lost data between once and twice a week. On average I only used it about four times a week, for about 15 minutes a session. Recently It failed completely and the cost of repair, a whopping Ł341.88! In other words a throw away write off. Toshiba couldn’t care less and in a brief letter admitted internal components often fail but, as the warranty had expired, they declined to assist.

Featured Talkback

Put simply, what is the compelling reason to pay ~$200 extra for an Eee with Windows XP? A Windows Eee won't come with any useful applications and you'll have to buy anti-virus software to boot. The truth about low cost computing is that nobody really cares whether the machine is running Windows or Linux as long as its cheap, its easy to use and it works.
