Vodafone Power Handheld review

Monday 6 February 2006, 10:23 PM

Get it if you don't mind it is not a dumb ppc

value is excellent!!! you can buy it for as low as 150 EUR / US 180$. and for this price you get a GPRS PHONE with VGA, yes real, native VGA, no need to run vga hacks. problem: the device will not run many of the ppc apps. but if you can find your apps in the hpc version (or hacked), then you'll love this phone. that is, if you don't want to do too much voice. it is not very good for that at last not without a headset. but the GPRS is very very good... along with the builtin apps! and it is stable! hardly any crashes.
hmm, it was hard to rate support. on one hand, there's no official support any more as the device has been discontinued. on the other hand hpcfactor provides excellent support for example.
all in all, the only problem i have with the bsquare is battery life. i can get through the day with one charge but it would be more comfortable if it were able to last a week with 1 hour GPRS a day heheh. then if it could last a week, can i have bluetooth with a gprs modem option to link it to other devices? :)

Verdict

The Power Handheld makes a good stab at being the ultimate portable connected device, but it's a bit awkward to use, especially when handling voice calls and entering significant amounts of data.
