Dell Dimension 8300 review

Wednesday 13 September 2006, 10:53 AM

Good, but graphics card vulnerable

Bought this in mid-2003. ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card failed in April 06. Replaced under warranty by by Dell afetr a protracted and painful phonecall to Tech Support; onsite engineer mentioned that the 8300 build, with the Audigy sound card right next to the AGP slot, meant they were getting a lot of graphic card failures. Dell still deny there's an issue. Replacement card failed again (same problem) this week, after only 5 months, but Dell replaced it without too much fuss, even though my 3Y-next-business-day warranty had actually lapsed a week prior. Otherwise the machine has been reliable and performed well.
