ATI has surprised its California-based arch-rival with the Radeon 9700 Pro. At present, nVidia is feverishly readying the new NV30, with which it intends to take back the leading position from ATI. Until then -- in accordance with nVidia’s rules of product designation -- one might as well view the GeForce4 Ti 4600 as the Radeon 9700 MX/2. The advantage of ATI’s Radeon 9700 Pro over the GeForce4 Ti 4600 is so big that the two products are hardly comparable -- if it were Formula 1, nVidia would not even qualify for the race.

The Radeon 9700 Pro also shows how little innovation there is in the GeForce4 compared to the GeForce3. ATI, on the other hand, has made a quantum leap in curent graphics chip technology with its new chip, which sets a new yardstick as far as 3D performance and video playback quality are concerned.

The first boards with the Radeon 9700 Pro should be available in October for around £350. More information on the Radeon 9700 Pro is available on ATI’s Web site.

So if you upgrade to XP SP3 you can't uninstall Internet Explorer, I'm quite sure I'm having a Deja-vu feeling about MS preventing people from uninstalling Internet Explorer in other Windows products.
