If you're a serious digital photographer, you'll require full creative control over your images. For this, you'll need a variety of interchangeable lenses, high resolution, sophisticated exposure and focus controls, plus a range of shooting modes -- the kind of features offered by digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras.

Of course, digital SLRs are more expensive than regular point-and-shoot digital cameras, with prices starting at about £1,500 for the body only. Luckily, if you've already invested in a set of 35mm SLR lenses and accessories, it's likely that you'll be able to find a compatible digital SLR body.
