For most of us, the ‘browser wars’ are a thing of the past: we just use Internet Explorer and get on with our online lives. But if you have reasons to avoid Microsoft’s browser, be they technical or temperamental, then fortunately there are alternatives.

The long-awaited version 7.0 of Netscape has just been released. This is based on the open-source Mozilla browser, but there are significant differences between the two products in terms of features. Then there’s Opera 6.0, which offers some unique interface features and is available on a wide range of platforms.

All three of these browsers have their pros and cons, but, like Internet Explorer, they’re all available for free. So check out our in-depth reviews, make your choice, and head for ZDNet’s downloads channel.
